The Big Three: How to Navigate the Holidays

Nov 11, 2015 | Articles

We are amid the Big 3. What is the Big 3, you ask?

It is simply the top 3 major holidays that children (and adults) love most: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The Big 3, a 3-month period, often leads to an increase in sweets, food, and social gatherings. This can result in a less focused approach to healthy eating and exercise, particularly during the holiday season.

Please check out these videos from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's program "Strong 4 Life." With Georgia currently holding an average of a 35% obesity rate for children; we definitely need to be reminded about what we are putting into our children, what we are leaving out and what they are missing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. It's time for us to make a change, and we can start during the Big 3.

If you have concerns that you would like to discuss with one of our providers, we encourage you to call our office and schedule an appointment for your child.
